Families Feel Right at Home in the High Desert
Southern California's High Desert area is a family-friendly place with affordable homes and a small town atmosphere, but big city amenities. Residents have the benefit of a four-season climate, clean air, and plenty of recreation and open space.
The Growing City of Victorville
As the largest city and business hub within the Victor Valley, Victorville is currently home to approximately 95,000 residents. The demand for skilled employees at all levels in a range of industries continues to grow, as more and more businesses move into the Foxborough Industrial Park and Southern California Logistics Airport.
G.E. Aircraft Engines, Goodyear Tire and Rubber, Nutro Products, M&M/Mars, ConAgra Foods, Wal-Mart Distribution Center and Pratt & Whitney are among the many companies benefiting from the High Desert's business-friendly environment.
At Home in Adelanto
Located just west of Victorville, Adelanto currently has a population of 27,000 residents and also encourages the business and commercial growth that can provide employment opportunities and lifestyle convenience.
The first of several new commercial centers has opened, providing a Stater Bros. supermarket, Longs Drugs, and a variety of smaller shops and restaurants. Future stores planned for the area are a Target Super Center, Lowe’s and Wal-Mart.
Great Schools to Nurture Great Minds
Children living in La Puerta attend schools in the Adelanto School District and the Victor Valley Union High School District. Higher education is available at the High Desert’s own Victor Valley Community College and branches of Azusa Pacific University and Chapman
University. California State University San Bernardino is located less than 30 miles away.
Family Fun and Recreation
Abundant parks, recreational facilities and city-sponsored programs feature children, youth and adult sports leagues and classes in everything from yoga to pet safety. A variety of sports fields, tennis and racquetball courts, swimming pools, picnic areas, and fitness centers provide lots of ways to enjoy the outdoors. If golf is your game, head for Green Tree Golf Course or Westwinds Golf Course, located right in Victorville.
Things To Do, Places To Go
Outdoor recreation for the entire family is within easy reach. Mountain High and Big Bear are perfect for all types of winter sports. Nearby Mojave Narrows Regional Park, Glen Helen Regional Park, and Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area invite families to enjoy fishing, boating, water skiing, hiking, camping and horseback riding.
Mojave Narrows Regional Park is also the setting for the annual Huck Finn Country and Bluegrass Jubilee where family members of all ages will enjoy fabulous music, hayrides, games, great food, a classic car show and even a hot air balloon ride.
If you prefer spectator sports, cheer on the High Desert Mavericks Class A baseball team which plays at Mavericks Stadium in Adelanto. Also, there’s nothing like a day at the fair for loads of fun. Victorville is home to the San Bernardino County Fair, and many other special events are held at the fairgrounds throughout the year.
Shopping, Culture and Entertainment
Great shopping is available at the Mall of Victor Valley, which offers more than 100 stores, a food court and other restaurants. A new 16-theater movie complex has also opened there. Area residents also enjoy proximity to the Factory Merchants and Tanger outlet malls in Barstow.
Area museums include the Route 66 Museum and the Victor Valley Museum and Art Gallery. The Victor Valley College Performing Arts Center is known for its fine college theatrical productions, as well as performances by professional artists.
